I love science fiction. I have read more scifi novels than any other genre, even more than historical fiction and fantasy combined (maybe – who can tell? Who cares?). . I first had the idea for this scifi novel series back in about 2006 and the other novels in the series I planned back then too, so this has been on my mind for a long time. It’s been an absolute joy writing this latest novel but I am even happier to be so close to release. I don’t have a date yet but hopefully within two weeks.
Settling on a novel and series title has been so hard but I believe they will Orb Station Zero and the Galactic Arena Series respectively. Read the plot summary below!
Rama Seti is a professional gamer, a champion of the virtual world. But he has not left his apartment in years, he is morbidly obese and has no real world combat experience. But, when the tactical surgical team of the Orb Project break into his home and cut off his head, Rama is transplanted onto the body of an enormous synthetic body, engineered to be the perfect weapon. The body he must use to save humanity from destruction and enslavement.
Back in 2039, an alien space station, the Orb, was discovered beyond the orbit of Neptune. Every thirty years, humanity must send its greatest champion to fight for entry into the galactic empire of the Orb Builders. The great gifts awarded to the victors include advanced technology, access to the wormhole network, and the rights to colonize entire star systems. Yet, in all three combats so far, humanity has failed to achieve victory.
Now, in 2199, the Forth Mission to the Orb puts humanity’s very survival at stake. A neighboring civilization of monstrous creatures have designs on the Sol System itself. The winner of the single combat will be granted the rights to every planet, moon and station in the system. To ward off an attack humanity cannot hope to survive, the only hope is victory inside the Orb Arena.
For the gamer Rama Seti to become Earth’s real life champion, he must first survive the journey to the outer system with the most terrifying group of killers, soldiers, athletes and warriors that humanity has ever known.
Success in this mission means humanity will finally take its place as a member of the galactic network of empires. Failure will mean our destruction.
What do you think? Is that a story that you want to read? I hope so but I would love it if you could let me know. There’s so many possible things to include and leave out in a plot summary, they’re incredibly difficult to get right.
I’ve also drafted / mocked up a cover design for the book and this will have to be finalised very soon. Again, what do you think, is this an attractive cover that would encourage you to click on it?
Now, I have a few final minor tweaks to make then it will be proofread and released exclusively on Amazon. If you’re interested in getting an ARC (Advanced Reviewer Copy) in exchange for leaving an honest review on Amazon then please join my Review Team!
I can’t wait to share this story with you and I’m excited to hear what readers think of Rama Seti and his battles with aliens and humans alike.
Yes, I would read that book. I always enjoy an intersection of video games with “real life” and your reference to a champion gamer being obese is nicely pointed.
Your series title, Galactic Arena, seems a little generic, so I’d suggest searching online to make sure no one else has used that.
Thanks Deby! I’m glad you like the summary. I’m not 100% happy with the Galactic Arena series title but I want something that is clearly “space scifi” and after going through roughly 36 variations I’ve ended up with that. No one else is using that title, believe it or not. There’s a tabletop game on kickstarter called that, I think but no novels. I’m not sure again, now you’ve said that, it is very generic, not sure it says enough… I’ll have another run through. Thanks!
