Well, I did it again. I set out to write a short novella and I went and wrote a longer one. 45,000 words at the end of the first draft, probably will end up at 50,000 at final draft.

I can’t help it.

So, I’ve finished the first draft of the second of the Galactic Arena prequels. I’ve been calling it Onca’s Duty but I’m not sure if that will be the title when I publish. It is accurate and I like it but it’s not especially descriptive if you don’t know anything about the series yet…

I knew what the entire plot of this would be long before I started so I do not expect any significant structural rewriting, it will just be edited for clarity, readability and to make it… gooder. Then it will be proofed, repeatedly, and published.

So I am very sorry that I will miss my deadline for releasing this in November but it will not be by too much, I hope.

In my defence, we all had a nasty illness this month that took me out of action for a week or so. Other than that, I’ve cranked out pretty much a novel’s worth of words in just a few weeks so that’s something to be pleased about.

I’ve also continued planning and researching the first actual sequel to the story in Orb Station Zero and I don’t think I’ve ever looked forward to writing something as much as I am this next one. There’s tons of action, right from the start and all the way through. Spaceships duking it out in orbit and space marines fighting on the ground below, lasers, nukes, assault rifles. Chases, escapes, true love. All my usual. One of the benefits of writing a sequel is having everything set up so I can launch straight into it.

I am certain that I will write it really fast.

First, though, you’ll get Onca’s Duty.

Watch this space.
